Preventive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance is like backup. People don't
really believe in it until they have a problem, then they wish they had
done a better job of it.
Under normal circumstances, computer equipment,
servers, desktops, network equipment, etc. need a little TLC (preventive
maintenance). Equipment in harsh
environments, such as warehouses or factory areas, high airborne contaminant
(dust or liquid) environments, and equipment that runs continuously, needs
more attention.
Heat is a major cause of failure for electronic and
mechanical components and may significantly shorten
your computer's life. Dust accumulates, making quite a good thermal
blanket, fans quit, often without you knowing, and equipment stops
working, usually at the worst possible time. If your system has not been
cleaned in the past three to six months, now is the time.
